Parkview Adventist Medical Center Chooses
Omnia Technologies to Implement VoIP System

January 2006 — Parkview Adventist Medical Center, an acute care medical facility located in Brunswick Maine, chose Omnia Technologies, Inc. to design and implement a VoIP solution. With an aging telephone system, Parkview did not have a unique problem, but they needed a unique solution. They needed a new phone system, but with a small IT staff, they did not have the resources to do a complete forklift replacement. The only way they could begin replacing the old telephone system was to choose a solution that could be phased in and integrated with their current system; this would allow them to replace the system in phases when the resources became available. After evaluating numerous VoIP solutions, Parkview concluded that the ShoreTel Telecommunication System was the best fit for the Hospital.

Like many hospitals, Parkview has a small IT staff, and adding complicated technology that requires a lot of attention is not an option. "When we decided to start evaluating new telephone systems, we realized that whatever we chose, it had to be simple to manage,” recalls Bill McQuaid, Director of Information Services for Parkview. "We had to be able to manage it on our own, short of major problems, without relying on a third party."

The ShoreTel IP PBX gives Parkview one distributed voice platform with a single system image and remote management capability. Things like moves, adds, and changes can now happen as quickly as someone can type on a keyboard -- and they can happen from anywhere on Parkview's network.

"Another great feature of the ShoreTel IP PBX is its distributed architecture," says McQuaid. "It will serve us well as we start to incorporate our remote doctors’ offices into our voice network. The ease at which we can deploy the ShoreTel IP PBX throughout our network will significantly reduce our long-term deployment and system management costs."
