The Challenge
IP telephony and American politics converged when the presidential debate hosts at St. Anselm College turned to Omnia to design a VoIP network that would help the college report on all the happenings.
The Solution
Omnia’s thorough voice and data network assessment indicated that St. Anselm needed a system that could replace its legacy PBX, support the 1,200 stations the campus would need, and work with PAETEC SIP trunks supplied over a Metro Ethernet connection, providing at least 120 SIP trunk lines. Deployment for the new system was limited to a matter of weeks.
IP phones and the ShoreTel IPBX chosen by Omnia were hooked up on-site to the trunk line. Ironclad pre-planning ensured the whole system was up and running in less than three minutes.
Results
The system successfully served the presidential candidates, their staff, on-site news reporters and St. Anselm staff before, during and after the debate. Even when a lightning storm affected the TV audio feed, the Shoretel system never faltered. Since the debates, St. Anselm is repurposing their VoIP system for day-to-day campus operations, including comprehensive faculty, staff, and student use.
